Miami-Dade County students: tell us what you think about a piece of county legislation, a Commission decision, or something a constitutional office is doing. Read the guidelines below, then use the form to send us your draft.
Guidelines
Who can submit
Any high school student (grades 9–12) enrolled at a Miami-Dade County public or charter school. The form needs your MDCPS student email — the one ending in @students.dadeschools.net — so we can verify enrollment before publishing. If you attend a private or home school, we still want your writing: email it to contact@miamidadecommissionwatch.com and we'll take it that way. We're not able to accept submissions from middle school or elementary students.
What to write about
Your own opinion on something the Board of County Commissioners, the Mayor, or one of the county's constitutional offices has done or is considering. Check our Meeting Tracker and Constitutional Offices pages for ideas.
Length
400–800 words is the sweet spot. We can work with you on edits for length or clarity, but very short or very long drafts are harder for us to place.
Original & your own
Submissions must be your own original writing, not AI-generated, and not previously published elsewhere. Cite any facts or figures you use.
Review, not auto-publish
We read every submission and follow up before anything goes live. We may suggest edits, ask clarifying questions, or decline to publish. Submitting a draft doesn't guarantee it'll be posted.
It's your opinion, not ours
Published editorials are bylined with your first name and last initial only — never your full surname, grade, school, or email — and represent your views alone. Miami-Dade Commission Watch's own news and meeting coverage stays nonpartisan; editorials are the one section where that changes, on purpose.
